These earrings by Buster Collins uses the seven brightest stars in their configuration for a uniquely New Zealand piece of jewellery.
Matariki is celebrated in Aotearoa New Zealand when the constellation Pleiades rises in midwinter. For many Māori this marks the start of the new year and the brightness of the stars was traditionally used an indicator of the coming season’s crop. New Zealanders are starting to embrace the festival with feasting and celebrations.
These earrings are hand-crafted in sterling silver and finished with a light oxidised patina. Each earring features tiny hand-pierced stars as a detail.
Measurements: The total length including the hook is 66mm, and the earring is 50mm by 9mm.
